While school-sanctioned sports don’t begin until middle school, the staff at Aldo have launched a number of clubs to give fifth- and sixth-graders at Aldo a taste of what it’s like to be on a team while learning a sport, as well as others aimed at youth empowerment. Check them out below!

Girls Group

What is Girls Group?

Girls Group focuses on empowering young women. The group meets to discuss self-esteem, confidence, peer interactions, how to be successful in school and more.

The best way to describe it is an SEL intervention that focuses on Women Empowerment, young women to be exact. We talk about self esteem, confidence, peer interactions (aka friend drama), how to be successful in school, and much more. I have a guideline that I use but really I let the girls guide the sessions to their needs and go off what they need in the moment to help them the best way possible. I tell them, my purpose of the group is to help them be the best versions of themselves :)

We (Rob Tomow and I) started a basketball club to help fill the gap of students who aren’t exposed to sports as much as some of students who are in traveling teams etc. We had several practices for 5th and 6th grade to help them build up their fundamental skills and understanding of the game. This week we are starting the first Aldo Basketball Club Tournament. It is single elimination. The games will last 20 minutes. We plan to have a game every Tuesday and Thursday until the 2nd round of the tournament starts. We have 8 teams of 5. We are extremely excited and we are also trying to plan a time for the championship on an early out day. I can keep you posted for when we schedule the championship game if you would like?
